Coffee Project NY Reopens In Downtown Brooklyn After Renovations

The Brooklyn location reopened last week to customers.

BROOKLYN, NY — A staple in the community since it opened in 2018, Coffee Project NY's downtown Brooklyn reopened to regulars and a score of coffee lovers last week after planned renovations.

The renovations lasted about 10 days at 78 Rockwell Place and its focus was to update the appearance of the coffee shop and improve customer experience, owner Chi Sum Ngai told Patch.

"The focus was to make the place nicer, more refreshed and brighter [for customers]," she said.

Ngai told Patch that customers are used to a regular routine and were happy the place back open and running again.

"We have been a neighborhood coffee shop for a long time, so they are happy to be back and are enjoying the brighter interior [and other changes]."

Ngai said that she wanted to keep the design of the interior simple and geared toward a Scandinavian style for the coffee shop.

In addition, she wanted the Brooklyn location to look like the other Coffee Project NY locations in Manhattan.

Awaiting customers at the Brooklyn location are the coffee shop's renowned seasonal options and classic drinks like the Kickass London Fog and Deconstructed Latte, as well as the viral Pandan Latte and Strawberry Matcha.

"A customer told me today, 'I can't believe how big of a routine this [place] is to my life'," Ngai said.

The Coffee Project NY owner praised her team for running the day-to-day operation.

"I really rely on my team — I want to shout out Luis (general manager), Josh (lead barista), Andres, Emma, Sheila, Leon, Dre and Pei," Ngai said.

Founded by Ngai and Kaleena Teoh in 2015, Coffee Project is an independent, AAPI- and women-owned coffee brand with 5 other locations in the city.

The 78 Rockwell Place location will be opened Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on weekends they are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ngai told Patch they are exploring options in the future to open earlier on weekdays once they settle in after the reopening.
