Cops Nab "Heartless" Hit-And-Run Driver, Police Say
Cops arrested the driver who on Oct. 16 hit Sheryl Augustine, 66, on Ocean Avenue, police said.
SHEEPSHEAD BAY, BROOKLYN — The hit-and-run driver who struck a 66-year-old woman in a fatal crash in Sheepshead Bay last week has been arrested, police said Monday.
"The Collision Investigation Squad has tracked down and arrested the heartless driver who fled the scene on 10/16/2019 from Ocean Ave & Emmons Ave @NYPD61Pct after striking and running over a 66 year old pedestrian, resulting in her death," the NYPD highway patrol tweeted. "Pedestrian had the right of way."
Roman Slobodkin, 70, was arrested Monday and charged with leaving the scene of the crash, not yielding to a pedestrian and disobeying the traffic light, police said. On Wednesday, Slobodkin was driving west on Emmons Avenue., and when he turned right onto Ocean Avenue, he struck Sheryl Augustine just before 5 p.m, said police.

Slobodkin, a Midwood resident, then drove away from the scene, police said. Medics took Augustine, who lived in New Paltz, to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
