Off-Duty BK Cop Dies After Shot In Robbery: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NY — The NYPD officer who was shot in the head on Saturday has died from his injuries, the department confirmed Tuesday.

Adeed Fayaz, 26, had been an officer for five years in Borough Park and was a member of the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society, according to the group. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

"Our Department deeply mourns his passing, and his family and loved ones are in our prayers," NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said in a Twitter post Tuesday night.

Police Officer Adeed Fayaz was a father, a husband, a son, and a protector of our great city.

Officer Fayaz was shot Saturday night and he tragically succumbed to his injuries today.

Fayaz received his critical wound after arriving with his brother-in-law at Ruby Street in East New York on Saturday evening, where the pair believed they were about to buy a Honda Pilot for $24,000 advertised on a Facebook Marketplace page, officials said.

The supposed car seller attacked the two, placing Fayaz in a headlock with a gun pointed at his head, demanding money from the pair.

When Fayaz broke free, the man shot him in the head, officials said.

Fayaz's brother-in-law, using the fallen officer's pistol, fired at the man as he fled.

Officials announced earlier Tuesday that a suspect, Randy Jones, 38, was arrested in the shooting, with officers finding the man holed up with a girlfriend and several children in a Rockland County motel room less than 48 hours after the shooting on Saturday.

Once officers found Jones, they arrested him using Fayaz's own handcuffs.

"We wanted him to know what he did to that officer and that the officers cuffs were on him," Essig said. "I think it sends a powerful message."

Jones is now charged with murder and attempted robbery, according to the NYPD.
