NEW YORK CITY—The dry weather in the city will end this weekend as a short but potent burst of wet weather is forecast for Saturday.

Forecasters have also issued a rip current statement, effective now until Friday night at 9 p.m. A rip current is a strong ocean flow that can drag even the strongest swimmers far away from the shore into deeper water.

After the rain comes another period of dry weather with highs in the 80s.
