BROOKLYN, NY — A massive new Lidl supermarket has officially opened in Downtown Brooklyn, nearly a year and a half after the grocer signed a long-term lease on Fulton Street.

The new 30,000-square-foot Lidl is located at 490 Fulton Street near Bond Street, in a space formerly occupied by an Express Factory Outlet, Chase Bank, and Burlington.

Lidl, a global discount supermarket chain founded in 1973, now operates over 11,000 stores across Europe and the United States, making it one of the world’s largest retailers.

In Park Slope, Lidl was set to replace a demolished Key Foods on Fifth Avenue — and two others were planned in Gateway Center and Chelsea, a representative said previously in a news release.

The new Downtown Brooklyn Lidl, open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., offers both popular national brands and Lidl’s own private-label products.

Customers can enjoy favorites like freshly baked 49-cent croissants throughout the day, high-quality produce, and premium meats — including the new Butcher’s Specialty private-label line. Shoppers can also explore the “Middle of Lidl” aisle, featuring a rotating selection of limited-time deals on everything from kitchen gadgets to outdoor gear.

"Our reception in Manhattan and Queens has been outstanding,” Or Raitses, Senior Director of Real Estate for Lidl, said in a statement. “We appreciate the enthusiasm for Lidl throughout New York City."

Lidl operates over 12,000 stores in 31 countries and employs more than 360,000 people worldwide. In the U.S., Lidl runs more than 170 stores across nine East Coast states and Washington, D.C.
