BROOKLYN, NY — Two Brooklyn healthcare facilities will get much-needed equipment upgrades after a donation from Borough President Antonio Reynoso's office, NYC Health + Hospitals announced Monday.

New ultrasound machines will replace outdated equipment at Gotham Health Cumberland and Williamsburg, and Gotham Health East New York will see new ophthalmology equipment, according to NYC Health + Hospitals representatives.

The new equipment announced Monday is funded by a $1.1 million allocation in Reynoso's Fiscal Year 2024 funding program.

"Brooklyn President Antonio Reynoso’s contribution represents hope, compassion, and a shared vision of a community where everyone thrives in good health,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health CEO Michelle Lewis in a statement.

Improving maternal health outcomes has been a key priority for Reynoso who, in 2023, allocated all $45 million of his capital funding to public hospitals for maternal healthcare improvements.

It was the first time a Borough President allocated an entire year's capital funding to one cause, according to the Borough President's office.

"As I continue to prioritize maternal health in Brooklyn, I’m particularly excited that some of this funding will be going toward state-of-the-art ultrasounds that will support healthy pregnancies among Brooklynites.
