Brady, an 11-year veteran of the FDNY, went into cardiac arrest while battling flames on the roof of the six-story Kings Highway apartment building, the department said.

Fellow firefighters and FDNY medics worked desperately to save him before rushing him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Brady, a Belle Harbor resident in the Rockaways, joined the FDNY in July 2014 and had most recently been assigned to Ladder 120 in Brownsville since 2022. He came from a long line of firefighters: his brothers Jimmy and Brian are currently with the department, and several cousins and uncles have also served, FDNY officials said.

"The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady," Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker said. "Firefighter Brady was a dedicated public servant, and firefighting was in his blood. We are thinking of his family, friends, and fellow members as we join them in mourning this immense loss."
