Older Adults From Chinese-American Planning Council Senior Centers Dominate City’s “Talent is Timeless”
Citywide Talent Competition Invites New Yorkers Aged 60 and Older to Share Their Creativity and Gifts
NEW YORK, NY—The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) announced that five groups from its older adult programs in Manhattan and Brooklyn have advanced in NYC Aging’s Talent is Timeless competition. Performers include a traditional Chinese dance group (Ms. Wen Mei’s Xinjiang Dance Group), a hula performance (Phoenix Dance Group), and the Rising Star Choir. These performers will now continue onto the citywide finals in September, where they will face off against dozens of other older New Yorkers from the five boroughs.
Talent is Timeless is a program of New York City’s Department for the Aging that showcases the spirit, resilience, and limitless potential of older adults, offering them a platform to demonstrate their abilities, while also challenging ageist stereotypes.
CPC serves more than 5,000 older New Yorkers at its Nan Shan Older Adult Center in Queens and the NY Chinatown Older Adult Center and Open Door Senior Center in Manhattan, providing solace, aid, and social activities to city’s expanding population.

In addition to nutritious, family-style meals, English instruction, and social service case assistance, each center offers robust arts & culture programming. Older adults can show off their fine art in exhibits, give music performances, learn calligraphy, and more. All of the centers strive to preserve and expand senior services and programs, including those which propelled the Talent is Timeless winners to success with hours spent rehearsing each week with their peers at the centers.
CPC also operates one of the city’s largest Home Attendant Programs, giving friendly home care services to seniors in the five boroughs, as well as to those who are medically disabled and/or physically handicapped.
