Police Nab Suspect Accused Of Raping 12-Year-Old Girl In Brooklyn Apartment: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NY — Police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl inside a Brooklyn apartment building, following an investigation into the violent attack.

According to police, the 12-year-old had just returned to her building near Morgan and Skillman avenues, part of NYCHA’s Cooper Park Houses, around 5:45 p.m. Thursday when a man approached, grabbed her, and raped her.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital by medics and is reported to be in stable condition, officials said.

Using surveillance footage from the area, detectives with the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit released an image of the suspect, asking the public for help identifying him. In the photo, he is seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a dark-colored backpack.

Neighbors told police they didn’t recognize the man, but just after 3:30 p.m. Friday, the NYPD arrested 27-year-old Eric McMichael in connection with the assault, charging him with multiple counts of rape, sexual abuse, burglary and child endangerment.

McMichael, who had been living in a shelter for men newly experiencing homelessness, was arrested in the 84th Precinct, the area of northwestern Brooklyn that includes Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, and Vinegar Hill.

McMichael is currently being held without bail, officials said.
