Popular Brooklyn Barbecue Restaurant Fette Sau Closing After Nearly Two Decades
The popular Williamsburg eatery, known for its dry-rubbed BBQ, will serve its last dinner on Dec. 21 at its Metropolitan Avenue location.

BROOKLYN, NY — After almost 20 years of slow-smoking and feeding hungry crowds, Williamsburg staple Fette Sau is getting ready to shut its doors for good.
Fette Sau, a fixture of North Brooklyn since 2007, announced this week that it will retire its 700-pound smoker for good on Dec. 21. The restaurant shared the update on Instagram over the weekend, telling fans that its Metropolitan Avenue location would be serving its final meals before the year ends.
“To all our Fette Sau fans, friends, and family, we are writing you with the bittersweet news that we will be closing down shop on December 21,” the team wrote. “We could never have imagined the success and support we found here on Metropolitan Ave. It is with heavy hearts and full stomachs that we say goodbye.”

Since opening at 354 Metropolitan Avenue, Fette Sau has been a go-to spot for Williamsburg diners craving an East Coast spin on classic Southern comfort barbecue. Its menu of locally sourced meats — including pulled pork, beef brisket, spare ribs, and German style potato salad — helped cement its loyal following.
Although the Brooklyn spot is closing just before Christmas, Fette Sau’s team says its Philadelphia location, open since 2012, will continue serving customers.

It’s not yet clear why Fette Sau is shutting down, but its departure is part of a larger wave of recent Brooklyn closures. Dirty Precious, a popular cocktail bar, ended its nearly ten-year run on Third Avenue, and the cherished Brooklyn Heights restaurant Colonie shuttered in November after almost 16 years. Earlier this summer, Bensonhurst lost the iconic Bari Pork Store after more than half a century.
Until closing day arrives, Fette Sau will keep its usual hours: Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m.
