Scenes From The Liberty Championship Ticker-Tape Parade
New York City celebrated its WNBA champions on Thursday with a major parade on Broadway.
NEW YORK CITY — Tens of thousands of New York City residents skipped work and school to celebrate New York Liberty's WNBA championship at a good, old-fashioned ticker-tape parade on Broadway in Manhattan on Thursday.
The Brooklyn-based team beat the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime in front of a sold-out crowd at Barclays Center on Sunday night, marking the team's first-ever championship in their 28-year franchise history.
The parade kicked off at 10 a.m. and went up Broadway's "Canyon of Heroes" from Battery Park to City Hall, where there was a special ceremony.
