BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A manhunt is underway for a person who shot a 3-year-old girl in the arm in Brownsville on Friday, police said.

The girl was shot in the shoulder as her father picked her up from daycare on Riverdale Avenue near Thomas S. Boyland Street just after 6 p.m. Friday, NYPD officials said. Police bandaged the young girl's shoulder and rushed her in their cruiser to the hospital, where she is in stable condition, authorities said.

The shooting is the third time a child has been hurt by a bullet in as many months, NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said at a new conference, noting an 11-month-old shot in the Bronx and a 7-year-old hurt in Coney Island.

The 3-year-old and her father were not the intended targets in the Brownsville shooting, Corey said. The girl was hit by one of five shots the shooter fired on the street, authorities said.
