Brooklyn Teacher Had Sex With Student, Sent Lewd Photos: Records

CANARSIE, BROOKLYN — A Canarsie teacher accused of sexully abusing a student allegedly had sex with the teen three times and sent lewd him pictures, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

Andre Braddy, a math teacher at Lenox Academy on Flatlands Avenue, was arraigned in Brooklyn Thursday night on charges of criminal sexual act, sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child.

Braddy is accused of having nonconsensual anal and oral sex with the 14-year-old student at the school on three occasions between March 19 an April 20, according to the complaint, which was made public after the arraignment.

Braddy also allegedly sent the boy photos of his genitals and anus, the complaint says.

Police arrested Braddy, 34, on Wednesday evening after the student reportedly told one of his parents about the alleged abuse. A judge set his bail at $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said. He's next due in court May 1.

Students and parents at Lenox Academy, a selective middle school open to gifted students across Brooklyn, were shocked by the allegations against Braddy, who was known as a "very nice" but also "really serious" teacher, The New York Times reported.

"He was really important to us," Amari Aaron, an eighth-grader at the school whom Braddy taught, told the Times. "It’s devastating to hear he’d do something like this. Nobody thought he’d be capable."

The NYPD is "exploring" whether Braddy had other victims, Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea told reporters Thursday, according to the Times.

The Department of Education has said Braddy will stay away from students as an investigation continues.

Braddy's lawyer, Andrew Stoll, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.
