East New York Teen Gets 21 Years to Life For Fatally Shooting Another Teen
The gruesome murder happened in broad daylight near the former Thomas Jefferson High School, the Brooklyn D.A. said.

EAST NEW YORK, NY – A 17-year-old teen was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison on Monday for fatally shooting an 18-year-old in the head near an East New York high school earlier this year, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office announced.
Malik Streat, an East New York teen, was convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he was tried by a jury last month.
Streat shot Darnell Wilkerson, 18, in the head in broad daylight, around 2:45 p.m., on January 13, 2016 near the former Thomas Jefferson High School, where Wilkerson had gone to meet his 16-year-old sister, prosecutors said. Wilkerson was a recent graduate of the school.

"This defendant took the life of another teenager and with today’s sentence he has been held responsible for his callous actions," Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.
Wilkerson fell to the ground, Streat shot him a second time in the head and fled. It was all captured by surveillance cameras surrounding the shooting.
