Gunman Who Shot Cop 'Couldn't Function,' Report Says

CYPRESS HILLS, BROOKLYN – A man who shot a police officer before committing suicide in Brooklyn told his father he “couldn’t function” before the attack, according to the New York Daily News.
“That’s what he said, he said he couldn’t function,” Amar Sookdeo, 58, told the paper that his son Andy Sookdeo, 29,
On Aug. 9, Andy Sookdeo’s mother called 911 with concerns about her son. She said he was not violent and was unarmed.

“I don’t know where he got the guns, that’s what we’re trying to find out now,” Amar Sookdeo told the News on Friday.
A police officer went to the back of Sookdeo's building when told the man might try to flee, police said. The Daily News identified the cop as Officer Hart Nguyen, 30. As he approached a rear bedroom, the shooter opened fire on him, striking him in the arm and vest, police said.

Hours later, Andy Sookdeo was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“It’s a very bad tragedy we’re going through right now,” said Amar Sookdeo. “It would have been worse if the cop had been killed."
