Know Your Rights In The Face Of Trump: Town Hall Meeting To Educate Brownsville

Council member Espinal is running a meeting to teach Bushwick residents their rights when dealing with government agencies.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — There is a ton of uncertainty wafting through the Bushwick and Brownsville communities, which are rich with immigrants and immigrant culture, as the decidedly more staunchly anti-immigration Donald Trump gears up to take office. Council member Rafael L. Espinal, who oversees parts of Bushwick and Brownsville, will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24 to go over with residents their immigration and other legal rights when consulting local New York City agencies precisely to be powerful when potentially facing new policies from the Trump administration.

The mayor's community affairs unit will co-host the meeting, where local officials and organizations will educate residents on how to ask the right questions and get the right help from the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, Department of Education, the New York City Police Department and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

The meeting will focus on concerns about immigration under Donald Trump's administration, specifically the rights of undocumented immigrants and resources and protections they can obtain from the city of New York.
