Man Beat Up, Robbed By Duo Posing As Cops In East New York: NYPD

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A duo posing as cops handcuffed, beat up and robbed a man in his own apartment building in East New York, according to police.

The 53-year-old man was in his apartment the Cypress Hills Houses on Jan. 8 when two men knocked on the door around 8:15 a.m., claiming they were the police, according to the NYPD.

The two men took the 53-year-old from his home in handcuffs and brought him to another part of the building, where they punched him and took $100 cash from his wallet, according to police.

The pair eventually took off the handcuffs and left the building, police said. The 53-year-old man was left with bruises but refused medical attention from emergency responders, police said.

Police described the suspects as being in their 20s or 30s and said they were both last seen wearing all dark clothing. Photos taken from surveillance footage in the building were released this week:
