BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN – A masked gunman was shot and killed by police during a wild shootout on a Brooklyn street early Labor Day, the NYPD said.
The man was seen by cops with a mask covering his face at Howard and Dumont avenues at 2:36 a.m., NYPD Chief of Department Terry Monahan said. As three officers approached him, he ran towards a building and started firing at their car, hitting it before fleeing, the police chief said.
But 30 minutes later, a report came into police that the man was trying to break into the backyard of a nearby home.
