Teen Charged In Deadly East New York Deli Shooting, Cops Say

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A teen has been charged with murder in an East New York deli shooting that left two dead, according to police.

Malachi Kirkland, 19, was arrested and charged Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after shots rang out in a deli on Loring Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on the July 4 holiday, according to police.

The shooting left 21-year-old Sulaiman Odunsa with a gunshot wound to the head. Odunsa, who lived just around the corner from the deli, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Another man, 23-year-old Amir Green, was shot in the neck and rushed to the hospital, along with a third 18-year-old victim, according to police.

Green would later succumb to his injuries, police said. The 18-year-old was in critical condition as of Tuesday, police said.

Kirkland is charged with murder and attempted murder for the shooting, according to police.
