Bushwick Fire Tears Through Evergreen Avenue Apartment Building

Some residents reportedly became trapped in the building while the 3-alarm fire raged.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — A "heavy," three-alarm fire ripped through the top floor of 420 Evergreen Ave., near Menahan Street, late Monday afternoon, according to the FDNY — the second fire of the day for Bushwick. (The first was at Bushwick and Harmon avenues.)

The fire on Evergreen broke out around 3:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said, and multiple reports came in of residents trapped in the building.

However, when the fire was finally declared "under control" around 5 p.m., only one firefighter — and no civilians — had come away with injuries, the spokesperson said. (And the firefighter's injury was "minor.")

The NYC Emergency Management System alerted Bushwick residents living near Evergreen and Menahan Street to close their windows to avoid inhaling smoke from the fire.
