Japan Fest, Free Roller Skating, Secret Jazz Show: NYC Weekend Events

Plus: Free movie screening in Hudson Yards, a hip hop exhibition closing and Sofia Coppola at The Strand.

NEW YORK, NY - Welcome to Patch’s inaugural weekly roundup of events happening in New York City this weekend. This is Nicole Rosenthal, Patch’s newly-minted senior local editor covering New York City, and I’m always looking for the latest and greatest events to share with Patch readers.

On the agenda this weekend is a free screening of Miss Congeniality at Hudson Yards, the first Feast of San Gennaro weekend in Little Italy and a secret jazz show in Chelsea on Friday.

Saturday will be bustling in Central Park with Oktoberfest in full swing, preceded by the NYC German Parade. Wrap up the day with a visit to Japan Fes in Chelsea or an evening with Sofia Coppola at The Strand. Brave souls can try Catch'N Ice Cream's avocado-and-tobasco flavor for free in NoHo to celebrate National Guacamole Day.

Didn't get to catch the Hip Hop Til Infinity exhibition at the Hall des Lumieres? There's still time left before it closes Sunday.

And to add some more New York City flair to your weekend, here’s a song from a local act to enjoy on your commute. This is Been Stellar’s “Kids 1995.”

Happy Friday, New York.
