Outlet Fine Art Gallery Closes After 5 Years in Bushwick

"There has been a downturn across the board in the art market," one of the gallery's founders told Bushwick Daily.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Outlet Fine Art, an art gallery that's been in Bushwick for almost five years, announced that it's officially closing, citing the changing Bushwick arts scene and astronomical Con Ed bills as pushing them over the edge, Bushwick Daily reported.

Outlet Fine Art at 253 Wilson Ave. had a great run of art exhibits featuring underrepresented artists and artists of color. Its leaders are parting ways and moving on to other projects, they told Bushwick Daily.

"There has been a downturn across the board in the art market, which is making it difficult for many spaces to survive," Julian Jimarez Howard, one of the directors and owners of the gallery, told Bushwick Daily. "That being said, not many spaces are sustainable on their own. But the [Bushwick art] scene has also grown and changed. It's not so close-knit anymore, and people's ambitions have grown."
