Would-Be Burglar Found Dead After Trying to Break Into North Brooklyn Car Service: NYPD

Cops would not release the victim's name or the cause of his death as of Monday morning.

BUSHWICK, NY — A man who tried to break into a car at a Bushwick car service was "subdued" by a member of the service's staff early Sunday morning and later died, police said.

Police found the 39-year-old man dead at Vision Car Service, at 582 Bushwick Ave., just before 6 a.m., the NYPD said. He was trying to break into the car service when the staff there saw him, and he threatened to stab them, sources told CBS2.

The Vision Car Service staff then "subdued" him, according to the NYPD.

While NYPD said the victim was found dead at the scene, a representative from the FDNY said EMS found the victim in "critical condition" at the scene and transported him to Woodhull Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

It's not clear what police mean by "subdued." A department spokesperson wouldn't elaborate on how the victim died as of Monday morning. (Nor release his identity.)

However, sources told CBS2 that the would-be burglar was suffocated to death.

His official cause of death will be determined by the New York City Medical Examiner's office.

An employee on duty at Vision Car Service Monday morning told Patch he wasn't aware of the incident. Patch has reached out to Vision Car Service's manager for comment and will update when we hear back.
