Tour PS 32's Gifted and Talented Program Monday

2011 is the first year of the Gifted and Talented program at in Carroll Gardens. To kick it off and to introduce perspective parents to all the school has to offer, administrators are hosting an open house tour.

If your child made the cut and was accepted into the coveted Department of Education Gifted and Talented program, head to the school on Monday at 8:45 a.m.

"We are excited to showcase our enrichment opportunities, newly renovated play yard and our soon to be renovated state of the art Library/Technology center," said teacher and union representative Becky Alford.

PS 32 is the first school in the city with the Autism Spectrum Disorder NEST program, which is highly regarded. The school pride's itself on how it runs the program, which relies heavily on integrating the students in this program with other children in the school.

Although students in the Gifted and Talented classroom will be in their own class, said Alford, the model of integration will certainly be incorporated into elective and enrichment classes.

At PS 32, as well as city-wide, the Gifted and Talented program begins with one class, Kindergarten, and then grows every year. The curriculum is the same, but with more enrichment.

The tour will take parents through the building, library media center and Kindergarten classrooms, and will culminate with a Q&A with teachers, administrators and at least one current parent.

"We're proud of our school," said Alford. "We want to be able to articulate that."
