Cobble Hill Thief Grabs Woman's Brand Bag, Gold iPhone, Credit Cards

Police have been hunting for the suspect, pictured below, for more than a week now.

COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN — Police are seeking a suspect (pictured above) accused of robbing a woman outside her home, located on the border of Cobble Hill and the Columbia Waterfront, on April 1.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was walking up to her apartment near the intersection of Hicks Street and Baltic Street around 11:30 p.m., police said, when the thief approached her from behind.

The thief then covered the woman's mouth and took her black, Head Porter-brand bag, which held a gold iPhone 6 and credit cards, according to the NYPD.

Detectives described the suspect as an adult, bald male last seen wearing black jeans; a black, long-sleeved sweater; and black shoes.

Anyone with information can confidentially report it on the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers website, or anonymously call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The NYPD runs a free program known as Operation ID that lets residents register their electronic devices with the department. That way, if cops recover a phone or another valuable item after it is stolen, they can return the item to its rightful owner.

This alleged crime took place in the NYPD's 76th Precinct. According to police statistics, through April 3, major crimes were collectively down about 12 percent in the 76th, compared to the same time period last year.

Additionally, 16 robberies had been reported in the precinct, compared to 19 during the same time frame in 2015.
