Patatas Bravas from Palo Cortado
If you like French Fries, you'll love Spain's version.

When I was in Spain I was head over heels for patatas bravas; tiny fried potato chunks served slathered in tangy ketchup and mayonnaise. There, you'd eat them at all times of day, along with other tapas staples like olives and boquerones al vinagre (anchovies in vinegar).
I was delighted when I learned I could get patatas bravas in Brooklyn. Go to on lower Court Street, they told me. And so I did. The dish was fancier, with dollops of the two sauces instead of a thick layer, and came with two thick toothpicks for piercing the cubes.
But the familiar flavor was there. The tangy red sauce was extra tangy, and even a touch spicy. This dish is highly recommended.
