
has a really killer lunch special. Two tacos with rice and beans for $6.95. One might think of rice and beans as just a side dish, something to eat in between bites of your tacos to cleanse your palette, or to savor the few bites that a taco actually is.
But the strength of a restaurant can always be judged by the little things. In this case, it was the simple rice and beans that bowled me over, not the cactus taco. And not the classic chicken taco either. (Both were delicious, but the cactus was a bit mushy for my taste.)
The rice and beans come served in what can only be described as an adorable paper bowl. I felt like I was at a carnival eating them. Topped in a light tomato salsa, and a touch of Mexican queso, the flavors came together with a dramatic pop.

The beans were soft and luxurious in my mouth, and the rice chewy and flavorful. The side dish did serve its purpose as an in between taco bites experience, but it was more than necessary.Â
Get the tacos at Oaxaca, of course. But don't skip the rice and beans.
