He’s walking a big message into all 59 high schools in Suffolk County. He’s being met with cheers, applause and even marching bands as he marches 300 miles in six days. “I walked from Center Moriches to Eastport-South Manor to William Floyd to Bellport to Patchogue-Medford,” Thode said. Thode, the athletic director for Center Moriches School District, was inspired to spotlight mental health in the wake of an extraordinarily challenging year for kids. (CBS New York)
  2. Center Moriches Steps Up To Support Triathlete Dad Diagnosed With Brain Cancer. Scott Leslie, 50, a triathlete raising two sons with his wife Erica, was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma. Center Moriches neighbors are rallying around his family struggling with the recent brain cancer diagnosis, raising nearly $13,000 and organizing a “Meal Train” that’s making it easier to keep food on the table during their difficult time.
