MORICHES, NY — Help is needed for a cat shot in Moriches, animal advocates said this week.

According to Frankie Floridia of the Strong Island Animal Rescue League, a call came in about a cat needing emergency surgery after being shot by a "high-powered BB gun. Hopper, a friendly indoor/outdoor cat, was shot in the leg, completely shattering his femur bone," Floridia said.

After speaking with Hopper’s "amazing, caring owners," Floridia said his organization agreed to take on the case and help Hopper, who will be kept inside — and help to secure the surgery he needs.

"It will be a long recovery, but everyone is on board to help this awesome cat and give him the care he needs," he said.

The investigation into how Hopper was hurt is ongoing, Floridia said.
