Here are the top stories in Center Moriches-Eastport today:
- Isidoro Scarola, 75, of Islip Terrace, the hunter who shot and killed a deer just feet from the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays was charged and arrested. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and engaging in posted activity in a restricted, "no hunting area," discharging a shotgun within 500 feet of a farm structure, and illegal take of protected wildlife, all violations, the NYSDEC environmental conservation officer said. (Patch)
- A Ridge woman seriously injured on Thursday morning when a fire broke out at her Manhasset Trail home at about 5:30 a.m. The Ridge Fire Department transported her to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of "serious injuries," police said. Another resident of the home was not injured in the fire, according to police. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear suspicious at this time, police said. (Patch)
- Upon his appointment as president of Suffolk County Community College, Dr. Edward Bonahue said, “SUNY Suffolk is an outstanding college that changes students’ lives every day, and I look forward to being part of the Suffolk community.” Suffolk Community is the largest community college in the 64-college State University of New York system with 25,000 students.
