Here are the top stories today in Center Moriches-Eastport:

1. Man Dies After Eastport Crash. Anthony Ricci, an East Moriches man, was fatally injured in an Eastport crash Wednesday night. The crash took place on East Moriches-Riverhead Road, at the intersection of County Road 111, at 5:56 p.m. Ricci, 60, was driving a 2019 Honda Accord northbound on East Moriches-Riverhead Road when he attempted to turn left onto the westbound lanes of County Road 111 and crossed in front of a 2013 Honda Accord traveling southbound, striking the vehicle. Ricci was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, where he later died, police said. (Center Moriches-Eastport Patch)
2. Area Unemployment Rate Decreases. The most recently available local unemployment figures are for October; that rate improved since September in the Center Moriches-Eastport area and continues to be lower than it was at the beginning of the pandemic. The Suffolk County unemployment rate was 4 percent in October, down from 4.2 percent in September. That reflected some improvement from October 2020, when the unemployment rate stood at 5.8 percent. 3. The Holiday Spirit Kicks Into High Gear In Center Moriches This Weekend. From Friday night’s Chamber of Commerce Christmas tree lighting ceremony to Saturday night’s Holiday Parade of Lights down Main Street to Sunday’s Winter Wonderland in town, residents and visitors have plenty of choices for holiday events in the area.
