2. On April 23 (rain date April 24), celebrate Earth Day with The Mastic Beach Conservancy! Participants will meet at Marina 5, located at 732 Riviera Drive, Mastic Beach, at 10 a.m. to clean up the Cranberry Pier, Marina 5, and Sheep Pen Creek. Equipment provided will be garbage bags, grabbers, and gloves. (Trihamlet)
3. Wednesday in Yaphank, Long Island Compost, a waste-to-gas facility, broke ground despite neighbors objecting to the plan. The facility will turn food waste into biogas and fertilizer. (Subscription: Newsday)
4. According to Riverhead Town Police, on April 13, in Wading River, a rideshare driver was robbed at gunpoint and had his vehicle stolen from him by a 15-year-old male rider. The teen was taken into custody and charged with first-degree robbery; he was transported for arraignment purposes to Suffolk County Court -Youth Part, police said. (Riverhead Patch)
