4. School officials of the William Floyd school district are proposing a $5 million property tax cut for the next budget vote scheduled for the next month. The board's proposal is based on the inflation hitting the community. The plan would help families struggling with the rising prices. (Subscription: Newsday)
5. William Petersohn, 30, of Mastic, pleaded guilty to charges he was driving under the influence of alcohol when he was behind the wheel of a car that caused a chain reaction crash, nearly killing a police officer. Officer Timothy Thrane spent weeks in a medically-induced coma while he recovered after emergency brain surgery. The sentence will likely be six months jail time and five years of probation, according to a Suffolk District Attorney spokeswoman. (Patch)
