The trial of ex-NYPD cop Michael Valva, from Center Moriches, and his former fiancée Angela Pollina was set to begin next Wednesday, but the judge pushed back jury selection to May 25 “out of an abundance of caution.” The couple are accused of second-degree murder and child endangerment charges in the hypothermia death of Thomas Valva and the alleged abuse of his brother Anthony, then 10. 4. On Friday in Mastic, a man was beaten and nearly robbed, by a trio of would-be robbers, Suffolk police said. The man told the police that he was sitting in his car on Eleanor Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., when he was approached by three people he believes to be men, who beat him, but he refused to give money to the assailants, according to police.
