Here are the top stories in Center Moriches-Eastport today:

  1. Quogue Opts Out Of Legal Pot Sales. New York State legalized recreational marijuana possession and consumption in March, but towns and villages have until Dec. 31 to decide whether to opt out of allowing sales or on-site consumption in their communities. The Village of Quogue has joined the growing list of East End municipalities to opt out of allowing recently legalized recreational marijuana to be sold at pot shops or cannabis cafes within its borders. But since the neighboring Shinnecock Indian Nation announced plans to open a dispensary in Southampton this year, and the tribe is not bound by town laws, some, especially Town of Southampton leaders, have questioned whether opting out would be effective. (Dan's Papers)
  2. High school football coach Kyle Moodt had life-saving brain surgery just days before leading Bellport High to a championship. Moodt was prepping his Bellport High School squad for the Division II Suffolk County Championship on Saturday night. Moodt said he felt confident his team would win against Lindenhurst, but added he wasn’t sure he’d be there to witness it happen. In July, Moodt started having crushing headaches isolated on one side. Numerous rounds of tests and scans ultimately led him to Stony Brook Hospital, where he had surgery. “I felt better hours later. Honestly, the pain I had for months was gone,” said Moodt, who is from Center Moriches. Moodt said that he hopes his story helps someone else experiencing headaches. Dr. Guido, Moodt's surgeon, urges anyone experiencing a new one-sided headache, especially if you are in your 30s or older, to get checked out. (CBS New York)
