Severe Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain To Hit NYC Before July 4: See Latest Forecast
Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to drench the Big Apple, according to the latest forecast.
NEW YORK CITY — Another round of severe thunderstorms is poised to slam the Big Apple starting Tuesday, forecasters said.
According to the National Weather Service, the first thunderstorm is expected to begin after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, amid cloudy and humid conditions ahead of a cold front that is moving into the region.
Overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday morning, forecasters predict more showers and possibly severe thunderstorms for the city, which could disrupt early morning commutes.

The storm is expected to drop up to three-quarters of an inch of rain, forecasters said, but the amount of rainfall could be higher depending on the severity of the thunderstorm.

AccuWeather forecasters warn that, depending on the severity, the storms may also bring flash flooding and hail.

"Flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary threats in any severe thunderstorm that erupts," said AccuWeather meteorologist Peyton Simmers. "These thunderstorms can slow down the evening commute along parts of the I-95 corridor including in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C."
Despite the rain, the temperature will remain hot and humid, with a high of 88 degrees on Tuesday and a low of 74.
During the day on Wednesday, the sky will become calm as the scattered showers subside. On Thursday, there's a 20 percent chance of more thunderstorms, forecasters said.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 5 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 74. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Calm wind.
Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 83.
Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.
