How did you come up with the name?
The name of our store is House of 29, Lifestyle Boutique By Sarah. This is a question we get all of the time! House of, as in a fashion House (ie- House of Chanel, Valentino). Except we are a fashion house with a special curated collection of Fine Jewelry, Fashion Jewelry, Clothing and Accessories. 29 because my birthday is July 29. Our concept is, We Do Not Stop Until We Find Your Perfect Want, Your 29. We want to be able to style our customers so they can find their perfect want, their 29. No matter what their special day is, birthday, anniversary, we want them to find what makes them feel special and represents them out of our curated collection.
Why start a business in this town?
We are from Chappaqua! We are a family business representing 3 different decades. Me- Sarah Mass David, my sister, Lily Mass and our mom Arlene Mass. We each have worked in the town for years. There would be no other place we would think of opening!
What business are you in?
We are a Lifestyle Boutique. We have a curated collection from up and coming designers not readily found in the area. We specialize in Fine Jewelry, Fashion Jewelry, Clothing and Accessories. Everything that makes up a woman’s lifestyle. We specialize in highly personalized, exceptional customer service and personal styling. We want our customers to feel as though they can find their entire ensemble all in one place. One stop shopping!
What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Time. There is never enough time to complete everything. But, we have no complaints, this is our dream, we love what we do!
What’s been your proudest achievement since opening?
Our customers have been comparing us to a mini Barney’s. Everyone is appreciating our concept and appreciating our unique lines. We have had so many repeat customers since we opened at the end of May 2015. This is an amazing achievement to know that our customers are loving our selections as far as merchandise. We spend a lot of time hand selecting all of our merchandise. We are helping working moms, busy stay at home moms, husbands select that perfect something no matter the occassion.
How does your business give back to the community?
We just opened in May 2015 and we are slowly getting involved in community events. I think that the overall feel and vibe to our store definitely helps make the downtown shopping experience more diversified. We are getting people from neighboring towns. Our customers are saying we have a soho feel, which I think is needed in the Chappaqua downtown shopping district. Chappaqua residents love to have a small town personal feel in our stores, while still offering well priced unique merchandise.
