Character.Org Designates WPES A 2017 NY State School Of Character
WPES has met all the prerequisites of character.org to become a 2017 NY character school.
From Bedford Central School District: West Patent Elementary School in Bedford Hills, NY, has been designated a 2017 New York State School of Character.
State Schools of Character are selected by Character.org, a national advocate and leader in character education, in collaboration with state sponsors, for having reached a standard of excellence within their states in the area of character development. State Schools of Character demonstrate “a dedicated focus on character development that has a true positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate.”
West Patent was “commended for providing its students a strong character education foundation. Their service learning component offers a wide variety of activities for students and staff in which to immerse themselves.” Other comments included praise for the “wide representation of school staff and community members among the character education team.”

The school will be recognized for its exemplary work in character education at the Champions of Character Banquet in Troy, NY, on April 26. In addition, West Patent drummers have been invited to perform the school’s character education song, “OMODE,” at the banquet.
“Be kind every day. It’s the West Patent way.” is the school motto embraced by all members of the West Patent learning community, as each and every day students, staff, and parents work together to make this world a better place through their actions and words.

West Patent Elementary School is the only school in NYS to receive the NYS School of Character designation in 2017, and its application has now been forwarded to the national level for consideration as a National School of Character.
