Emergency 911 Operators Help Deliver A Baby Over The Phone
When the stork came earlier than expected, an overwhelmed father-to-be called Westchester Emergency Service for much needed support.
NEW CASTLE, NY — On Monday evening, a concerned father-to-be called 911 for assistance in the Town of New Castle. It seem his son wasn't going to wait for the delivery room, and was determined to meet mom and dad right away.
The dad-to-be was transferred to the Westchester County Emergency Communications Center and was guided by veteran dispatcher Dennis Reilly on exactly how to assist in the baby’s delivery until the arrival of EMS.
Dad, with the help of Dispatcher Reilly, helped bring his new son into the world just moments before Mount Kisco EMS and the paramedic from Westchester EMS arrived on the scene.

Reilly was tapping into his training as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (a requirement for all Westchester County Emergency Communications Center staff) and followed the protocols for a "field delivery." The dispatcher not only reassured the understandably excited papa, but also coached him through delivery.
Assisting Dispatcher Reilly with radio dispatch and communications was Dispatcher Brendan Porteus, who notified responding units and provided updates until their arrival.
