Millwood Area Family Homeless After Morning Blaze

A Saddle Ridge Road family safely made it out of their burning residence this morning, said Millwood Fire Department First Assistant Chief Jorge Rodrigues.

The department was notified about the residential structure fire at 22 Saddle Ridge Rd. at 7:40 a.m. The home is on the West End of New Castle and close to downtown Millwood.

"Upon arrival, there was heavy fire right in the front, at the front door and on the a-side of the building," Rodrigues said.

A mother and daughter were safely outside the home, he said, and did not require any medical treatment at the scene.

Mutual aid came from Ossining's FAST team, a Mount Kisco ladder, an engine from the Chappaqua Fire Department and from Chappaqua ambulance responders, according to Rodrigues.

He estimated it took approximately 15 to 20 minutes before the large fire was put out. The department's volunteers then continued to put out hot spots and assess the damage of the home.

An investigation revealed the the blaze originated at the home's electrical board and electrical heater, Rodrigues revealed.

The fire destroyed much of the home, he said, and it is not livable.

The downstairs portion in the affected area housed the living room, according to Rodrigues.

"They could only go into one side to grab personal belongings," he said of the family.
