NY Gives New Castle $7,045 In Highway Safety Grants

Town and village police and county agencies received money for programs ranging from pedestrian safety to traffic services.

CHAPPAQUA, NY — The New Castle Police Department is among the local recipients of federal highway safety grants awarded to programs across New York for projects addressing overall highway safety, child passenger safety and police traffic services.

The state is distributing more than $37 million to help reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes to more than 500 programs in local, state and nonprofit agencies.

"This funding is critical to the localities and community organizations that help ensure our roads are safe for everyone who use them," state Assemblyman William Magnarelli, chair of the Transportation Committee, said in an announcement.

The New Castle Town Police Department received $7,045 to support Police Traffic Services.

At the county level, Westchester's Department of Laboratories and Research received $77,000 for lab services. The County Department of Public Safety received $37,260 for its Police Traffic Service.
