State Police Accuse Teen of Filming People in Health Club Locker Room

A 19-year-old Croton resident faces felony charges for allegedly filming people using the locker room/shower area of a local health club.

State Police at Cortlandt issued a press release today in which they name the defendant but the club where he reportedly “surreptitiously” filmed patrons “in various states of undress.”

After four months of investigation in collaboration with Croton Police, the county District Attorney’s office and the state Computer Crimes Unit, state police arrested Daniel "Max" Winsten on Nov. 8.

Police said they seized and analyzed “a number of” computer items from Winsten’s residence and then charged him with:

  • Unlawful Surveillance in the Second Degree, a Class "E" Felony,
  • and Possessing an Obscene Performance by a Child, also a Class "E" Felony.

Winsten was arraigned and released with “certain conditions” from the Town of Cortlandt Court.

Investigation is ongoing and police say further charges are possible. If convicted on these current charges, Winsten could face up to four years in State Prison.
