Commack Collision Center Going Green

Sunken Meadow Auto Collision Center is now using a paint system that gives off 80 percent less emissions.

Sunken Meadow Auto Collision in Commack is going green.

The business, located at 2153 Jericho Turnpike, recently switched its paint-finishing system to lessen the amount of chemical compounds used in paint coatings and cleaning products by using a low-volatile organic compound (VOC) waterborne basecoat.

In comparison to a solvent-borne basecoat, PPG Envirobase basecoat, can reduce VOC emissions by up to 80 percent, according to the company.

“This move further helps us to do our part to improve the quality of our air and contribute to an overall healthier work environment, owner Charles Sledz, said in a press release.

Waterborne basecoat is a coating technology that is typically used by manufacturers to create the original color on modern vehicles and can match a vehicle’s original finish.

The owner, who established Sunken Meadow Auto Collision 25 years ago, said that he committed to keeping up with the most environmental friendly technologies out there. Sledz took a two-day course on the paint system before he implemented into his shop.

“Not only is the paint better ecologically, it gives better color matches and it’s faster to complete a repair when compared to the system we were using,” Sledz said.
