Power Update: Power Outages in Commack Gradually Being Restored
LIPA has restored electricity to more than two-thirds of customers as of Wednesday morning, yet thousands still lingering in the dark.

Commack residents are gradually starting to see power return, according to the Long Island Power Authority
According to LIPA's Storm Center Outage map, 2,803 customers out of 13,167 in Commack are still without power as of Wednesday morning. That number is significantly decreased from the who were left in the dark since Hurricane Irene struck early Sunday.
LIPA crews and contractors could be spotted in local neighborhoods on Monday and Tuesday.

Most of Commack's businesses were open Monday, and several opened Tuesday morning after gaining power back sometime overnight. on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway opened after two days without electricity; however their perishable food inventory was wiped out during the blackout, said a store employee.
The Commack branch of the Smithtown Special Library District remains closed due to the blackout, as does the Commack SChool District, which canceled all school-related activities, including sports practices and physicals, since the storm.

Residents without power looking to charge their electronics can stop by Commack Public Library on Hauppauge Road, which did not lose power.
As of Tuesday morning, 270,264 customers were still left without power, marking LIPA's largest power outages in 26 years.
