E. Northport Jewish Academy to Move into Commack Y JCC

The change will take place in September 2013.

The Jewish Academy of Suffolk County in East Northport will move into the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center of Commack this September, the Y JCC announced in a press release Tuesday.

According to the release, members of both organizations were notified of the change on the eve of Passover.

Both parties said working under one roof would be beneficial to the families and members of the centers, by enabling members to benefit from the Jewish and educational resources the each organization has to offer.

“It is a natural next step for the JCC to continue to be viewed as the center of Jewish life in Suffolk County,” Adam Bendeson, Executive Director of the Y JCC, said in the release.

“The driving force for this decision was what is in the best interests of all our students and families. There is no doubt in any of our minds that this is a home run,” Rabbi Michael Druin, the Head of School at the K-7 Academy, added.

The Suffolk Y JCC was established in 1975 and has grown to be one of the largest JCCs in the country. The Jewish Academy was established in 2004 and is endorsed by the Suffolk Board of Rabbis as the flagship day school of the Suffolk Jewish Community.  It specializes in a STEM curriculum with a skill-based approach to education.

An event celebrating the move will be held in September as the school year begins.  For more information call the Suffolk Y JCC at 631-462-9800 or the JA at 631-368-2600.
