Five 9/11 Memorials Near Commack

A list of the memorial ceremonies and events being held throughout Commack and nearby towns this weekend.

As we approach the 10th anniversary of the 9/11, many Commack organizations are holding memorial ceremonies and events to honor both the victims and heroes of the day.

Here are five ways you can join the community in remembering 9/11:

1. Community members are invited to meet at the Heroes Memorial Track at the Commack High School Football Field for the district's annual to honor the heroes of 9/11.

3. "9/11 Remeberance," a photographhy exhibit by Richard Green, will be on display throughout the month of September starting Sunday at the.

4. The 9/11 Responders Remembered will hold an unveiling and dedication of their at Gibbs Pond Road and Smithtown Boulevard at 10:30 a.m Saturday. This memorial park is the first in New York to honor first responders who died of 9/11 related illnesses.

5. The Melville Fire Department is who lost their lives on 9/11. The fire department will unveil a plaque with the names of the victims during a service at the World Trade Center Monument at the department’s sub station located at the corner of Old Country Road and New York Avenue in Melville on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
