Man Who Shoved Man, 79, In Commack Arrested: Police
The man was panhandling for money when he pushed another man, causing him minor injuries, police say.
COMMACK, NY — An East Patchogue man was arrested after Suffolk police said he assaulted an elderly man in a Commack parking lot last week.
Robert Whittaker, 56, was panhandling for money in a parking lot, at 10 Garet Place, when he pushed a 79-year-old man at 3:45 p.m. May 7, police said. The man suffered minor injuries, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting Whittaker was on East Main Street in Bay Shore at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Whittaker was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony.
He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District
Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
