PHOTOS: Fire Breaks Out in Commack Home

Two firefighters hospitalized for heat and smoke-related injuries.

A fire broke out in the basement of a home on Rita Crescent late Wednesday morning, forcing firefighters to battle the blaze in the afteroon heat.

Members of the Commack Fire Department responded to a call reporting smoke coming from the home at approximately 11:39 a.m. and the fire was extinguised within 50 minutes.

The house was unoccupied when the fire started.

Two firefighters suffered from heat and smoke-related injuries which were non life-threatening.

Crews from the Commack Ambulance Corp., Brentwood Legion Ambulance and East Brentwood Fire Department Ambulance as well as the Hauppauge, Dix Hills and Greenlawn Fire Departments also responded to the scene as a result of the high temperatures and heavy smoke.

The Suffolk County Police Department and Smithtown Fire Marshall were investigating the cause of the fire, which caused significant damage to the house.
