Plows Making Their Way Through Commack

Pavement is slowly coming back to the surface in Commack after the area was walloped with 29.1 inches of snow.

According to residents, plows were seen at Mayfair Shopping Center, Burr Road, Dovecote, Wheatfield, Shinbone, Kings Park Road, Fisher and parts of Townline Road.

Residents also said that the Smithtown side of Commack is looking more manageable than the Huntington side.

"My block looks great! As usual, town of Smithtown has always been good with plowing my area," Laura Caravella commented on Facebook.

However, much of Commack, including many side streets are still loaded with a heavy blanket of white as of 4 p.m. Saturday.

The snow has caused problems not just for residents, but for removal crews as well.

Commack Patch Facebook fan Madelyne Lucchese said a plow was stuck on Donna Lane and Jeanne Place for about 20 minutes. "Poor guy. Just made it out," she said.

Many roads including Commack Road and Indian Head Road are still problem areas.

Residents said they're trapped on Bowman and Huntsman Lanes, Sugarwood, Country Woods, Tara Lane, White Birch, Country Estates and other smaller streets. 

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday morning that extra plows and crews from New York City and Nassau County would be sent to Suffolk County.

The Town of Huntington closed all roads Saturday morning so that emergency workers and crews could get through.
