Residential Gas Leak Causes Evacuation
A gas leak at a residence forced at least one family to evacuate Wednesday afternoon.
A gas leak at a Commack residence forced at least one family to evacuate Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk County Police said.
The leak occurred at 43 Evelyn Dr., just south of Jericho Turnpike and east of Larkfield Road.
Three National Grid trucks and a crane were in front of the home at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The front lawn was completely dug up and several workers appeared to be surveying the site.

While at least one media outlet reported that the street between Grace Park Drive and Sheldon Drive was closed off as a result of the gas leak, the street was open as of 3:15 p.m. No other nearby streets appeared to be closed.
The extent of the gas leak and the evacuation is not known at this time. A call placed Wednesday afternoon to National Grid/Keyspan was not immediately returned.
